Two centering reflection practices to help you finish the year with purpose
In these quiet days in-between the holidays and New Year's Day, it might be a perfect time for some support on centering your mind, body, and spirit.
Are you up for it? Here are two practices I love.
Practice 1: The Life Satisfaction Wheel
Draw a large circle on a paper. Make 10 sections. Above each section write one of these headings:
- Physical Health — body, energy, well-being
- Mental and Emotional Health — stress, resilience, mood
- Career / Work — fulfillment, contribution, growth
- Finances — income, stability, relationship with money
- Relationships — partner, family, close connections
- Social Life — friends, community, support
- Personal Growth — learning, skills, inner development
- Rest and Pleasure — joy, fun, recovery
- Environment — home, space, order
- Meaning and Purpose — values, direction, sense of meaning
Then, ranking from 1 to 10 (with 10 being the highest), rate each category based on how satisfied you are. Before writing the numbers, pause and tune into your body to feel your authentic choices. Just notice — no judgment.
Practice 2: A Grounded Gratitude Reflection
On a fresh piece of paper:
- Write 10 specific events from this year that you are grateful for
- Next to each one, write what you gained internally — confidence, clarity, closeness, courage
- Choose 3 difficult moments from the year and reflect on what you learned — self-respect, healthier boundaries, resilience
- Acknowledge the lived experience and emotionally complete the year
Why these practices matter
Information is power. The purpose of these practices is not to judge yourself, but to see clearly and let things settle. Notice what new awareness comes up when you see your life honestly.
You are not behind. You are not too late. You are exactly where you are — and that is the perfect place to begin again.
Love yourself more. You are worthy. You are good enough. You matter.
